Her right knee struck the stone first, sending a sickening shockwave of pain shooting up her thigh.
Her hip slammed down a fraction of a second later.
The breath was completely knocked out of her lungs in a harsh, ragged gasp.
She lay crumpled on her side, the freezing temperature of the white and gray veined stone instantly seeping through her maternity dress.
Her hands flew immediately to her stomach, her fingers pressing into the fabric in pure, unadulterated terror.
The baby jolted hard inside her, a frantic, rolling kick that made Chloe bite down on her lip to keep from screaming.
A dead, heavy silence fell over the massive dining room.
Five household servants were frozen in the corners of the room.
