Eleanor pivoted gracefully toward her son, forcing a flawless, affectionate smile onto her face.
She opened her mouth to weave the perfect, innocent lie, entirely unaware that the brand-new security cameras hidden in the ceiling molding were silently blinking red.
William ignored her opening words, striding past her as if she were a ghost.
He dropped to his knees, his massive frame shielding Chloe from the rest of the room.
"I've got you,"
William whispered fiercely, slipping his strong arms beneath her shoulders and knees.
He lifted her with effortless, desperate strength, holding her tightly against his chest.
He carried her out of the dining room, ignoring Eleanor's frantic attempts to explain.
The black luxury SUV tore out of the estate gates, breaking every speed limit to reach the private wing of the city's top hospital.
