Chapter 14 - The Ghost in the Mansion

Twenty minutes later, William’s black SUV pulled through the massive wrought-iron gates of the Sterling family estate.

When he walked through the heavy oak side doors, the atmosphere inside the mansion was suffocating.

The household staff scattered like ghosts, waiting for William to storm into the sunroom and start screaming at the matriarch.

But William did not go looking for his mother.

He walked right past the grand staircase, turning down the long, shadowed corridor that led to the estate’s private West Wing.

At the very end of the hall was a thick steel door hidden behind a decorative wood panel.

He pressed his thumb to the biometric scanner.

The heavy lock clicked, and he stepped inside the master security control room, locking the door firmly behind him.

The room was pitch black, illuminated only by the glow of three dozen high-definition monitors.

William sat down in the leather operator’s chair and brought the dining room feed to the main, central screen.
