Chapter 10 - The Ice in His Veins

His dark suit jacket was slung casually over one shoulder, his tie already loosened around his collar.
He stepped fully into the dining room, the heavy oak doors slowly swinging shut behind him.
His eyes immediately scanned the room.
He saw the terrified servants staring at the floor, he saw his mother holding a crystal glass, and then he saw his heavily pregnant wife crumpled on the freezing marble floor.
The temperature in the vast room seemed to drop twenty degrees in a single second.
William did not shout.
He did not rush forward in a panic.
He simply lowered his suit jacket slowly to a side table, his eyes locking onto his mother.
He took three slow, deliberate steps into the room.
His leather Oxford shoe bumped gently against the heavy orthopedic maternity chair that Eleanor had kicked away.
William placed one foot squarely against the rolling wheels of the heavy chair, pinning it to the floor.
"Why is my wife on the ground?"
May you like
William asked.
His voice was terrifyingly calm.
