The rain was relentless, washing the mud over her face as she was dragged across the rough asphalt.
Valeria fought with everything she had, kicking and scratching, but the men were far too strong. They pinned her to the ground, pulling her arms violently behind her back.

Thick, coarse ropes were wrapped tightly around her wrists, biting deep into her skin. They tied her ankles together with brutal efficiency, leaving her completely immobilized in the exact center of the lonely, unlit highway.
She lay on her side, the freezing asphalt seeping through her maternity clothes. The men did not speak a single word to her. Once she was secured, they simply melted away into the darkness of the surrounding woods, leaving her entirely alone in the storm.
