Chapter 2 - The Deceptive Summons

The deception began with a simple, urgent phone call.
Valeria had been resting on the sofa when her cell phone buzzed. It was Teresa’s private assistant, speaking in a hurried, panicked tone, claiming that Daniel had been in a minor accident on the old industrial road just outside the city limits.
"Is he okay? Where is he?"
Valeria demanded, her heart leaping into her throat.
"He is asking for you, ma'am. He won't let the paramedics load him into the ambulance until you arrive,"
The assistant lied flawlessly.

Without a second thought, without even pausing to grab a heavy coat, Valeria grabbed her car keys and rushed out into the gathering storm. She did not call Daniel to verify; panic had completely overridden her logic.
She drove her car toward the desolate outskirts of the city, the rain beginning to fall in heavy, blinding sheets against her windshield. She had no idea she was driving directly into a meticulously orchestrated trap.
