Chapter 32 - The Husband's Testimony

"The prosecution calls Daniel Sterling to the stand,"

The district attorney announced clearly.

A heavy, electric murmur rippled through the courtroom as Daniel stood up from the front row. He wore an immaculate, dark tailored suit. He walked to the witness stand, placed his hand on the Bible, and swore to tell the truth.

He sat down, his posture rigid, radiating an absolute, chilling authority.

"Mr. Sterling,"

The prosecutor began.

"Can you describe the events that led you to the industrial road on the night of October 14th?"

"I tracked my wife's GPS location after receiving a fraudulent, panic-inducing phone call designed to lure her out of our home,"

Daniel answered, his voice echoing powerfully through the microphones.

Teresa stared at her son from the defense table, her eyes silently pleading with him to soften the blow. Daniel looked right through her.

"And what did you see when you arrived at the scene?"

The prosecutor asked.

"I saw my wife bound with ropes on the asphalt,"

Daniel stated, his voice dropping to a low, lethal register.

"And I saw the defendant accelerating a two-ton luxury vehicle directly toward her."
