Chapter 39 - The Garden of Peace

Later that evening, after Leo had been put to bed in his secure, beautifully painted nursery, Daniel and Valeria walked out onto the wooden deck of their home.
The fire pit crackled warmly, casting a soft, golden glow across their faces. The sound of the ocean crashing against the cliffs below was a constant, soothing rhythm.
Daniel poured two glasses of red wine and handed one to Valeria.
"To a perfect day,"
Daniel toasted softly, clinking his glass against hers.
"To a perfect life,"
Valeria agreed, taking a slow sip.
She leaned her head on his shoulder, looking out at the endless expanse of the dark, starlit ocean.
"Do you ever think about the road?"
Daniel asked quietly, his arm wrapping securely around her waist.
"Sometimes,"
Valeria admitted honestly.
"But the memory doesn't carry any weight anymore. It feels like it happened to a different person in a different lifetime."
"Because you killed the fear,"
Daniel murmured, kissing the top of her head.

"We killed it together,"
Valeria smiled, closing her eyes and breathing in the crisp, salty air.
