Six months later, the city’s largest and most opulent convention center hosted the inaugural philanthropic gala for The Vanguard Sanctuary.
The grand ballroom was packed wall-to-wall with influential politicians, wealthy corporate donors, and powerful civic leaders.
Valeria stood backstage, looking out at the glittering crowd through the heavy velvet curtains. She wore a stunning, elegant emerald evening gown that draped flawlessly over her frame.
She wore no excessive jewelry, and she carried no fear. She was beautifully, unapologetically herself.
Daniel stepped up behind her, wrapping his arms securely around her waist.
"They are all waiting for the queen,"
Daniel whispered affectionately into her ear.
"I am just a survivor, Daniel,"
Valeria replied, leaning back against his solid chest.
"You are a survivor who just changed the world,"
Daniel corrected her gently.
The master of ceremonies stepped up to the podium, his voice echoing through the massive speakers.
