Chapter 22 - The Morning Headlines

By dawn, the storm had broken, leaving the city washed clean, but the social landscape of the elite was completely shattered.

Daniel stood by the window of the hospital room, looking down at his phone. The screen was flooded with hundreds of missed calls, text messages, and urgent emails from the board of directors at Sterling Holdings.

The news of Teresa Sterling’s arrest had leaked to the press.

STERLING MATRIARCH ARRESTED FOR ATTEMPTED MURDER OF PREGNANT DAUGHTER-IN-LAW.

The headline glared back at him in bold, unrelenting black letters.

"It's everywhere, isn't it?"

Valeria asked from the bed, watching his rigid shoulders.

"Yes,"

Daniel replied, turning around to face her.

"The company's PR team is in an absolute panic. They want me to issue a statement claiming it was a tragic vehicular accident caused by the storm, to protect the stock prices."

Valeria felt a familiar, icy dread pool in her stomach.

"What are you going to do?"

Valeria asked quietly.

Daniel walked over to her, his eyes burning with an intense, unyielding fire.

"I am going to let the stock burn,"

Daniel stated flatly.

"I am not covering up her crimes to save a corporate portfolio. From this moment on, her name is poison."
