Chapter 30 - The First Cry

The labor was intense, grueling, and terrifyingly beautiful.

Daniel never left her side for a single second. He held her hand, his own knuckles turning white as she squeezed his fingers during every agonizing contraction.

"You are so strong, Val. You are a warrior,"

Daniel murmured fiercely into her ear, wiping the sweat from her brow with a cool cloth.

"I can't do it!"

Valeria cried out, exhaustion threatening to overwhelm her.

"Yes, you can,"

Daniel promised, his voice thick with emotion.

"Push, my love. Bring him to us."

With a final, desperate, exhausting effort, the heavy tension in the room shattered completely.

The brilliant, piercing, miraculous sound of a newborn baby crying echoed loudly off the sterile walls of the delivery suite.

"It's a beautiful, healthy baby boy,"

The doctor announced with a massive smile, quickly cleaning the infant before placing him gently onto Valeria's chest.

Valeria burst into tears of absolute, profound joy. She looked down at the tiny, perfect, fragile life resting against her heart.

Daniel leaned over the bed, completely breaking down into happy, overwhelmed sobs. He kissed his wife's cheek, then gently kissed the top of his son's dark, soft hair.

"He is perfect,"

Daniel wept, his heart expanding beyond anything he had ever imagined.

"We survived, Daniel,"

Valeria whispered, looking up at him with radiant, victorious eyes.

"We won."
