Chapter 3 - The Dead End

The industrial road was abandoned, flanked by overgrown trees and rotting concrete barriers.

Valeria slowed her car down, squinting through the torrential rain, desperately looking for flashing ambulance lights or Daniel’s vehicle. There was nothing but darkness and the relentless pounding of the storm.

Suddenly, her car engine sputtered violently. The dashboard lit up with a dozen red warning lights, and the vehicle lost all power, rolling to a dead stop in the middle of the desolate road.

"No, no, please,"

Valeria whispered, frantically turning the ignition key.

The engine was completely dead. Someone had tampered with it before she even left the estate.

Before she could reach for her phone to call for help, the driver’s side window shattered inward in an explosion of glass. Two large men in dark raincoats reached through the broken window, unlocking the door and dragging her screaming out into the mud.
