Chapter 9 - The Recognition

With Victoria finally gone, the heavy, toxic tension in the lobby evaporated, replaced by a profound, respectful silence.
But Daniel wasn’t focused on the punishment. He was focused on gratitude. He turned his attention away from the doors and looked directly at the young woman in the black-and-white maid's uniform.
He took a step toward her. "What is your name?"
"Emma," she replied softly, her hands still shaking slightly from the adrenaline of the confrontation.
"Emma, thank you," Daniel said, offering a slight, deeply respectful bow of his head.
The entire lobby stared in absolute awe. The billionaire owner of the global hotel chain was personally thanking a maid in front of hundreds of people.
Emma looked down, suddenly overwhelmed by the intense spotlight. "I was only trying to help, sir. I couldn't just stand there and let her hurt someone."
Margaret smiled warmly from her wheelchair. "That is exactly why you deserve recognition, Emma. You didn't know I was the owner. You just saw someone who needed protecting."
Daniel looked at Emma's nametag, then at her worn, calloused hands. "How long have you worked here, Emma?"
"Almost three years, sir," she answered.
"Have you ever received a formal commendation? A promotion? A bonus?" Daniel pressed.
Emma shook her head slowly. "No, sir. I just clean the twelfth floor."

Daniel smiled, a genuine, warm expression that completely transformed his face. "That changes today."
Without prompting, a few guests began to clap. Within seconds, the entire lobby erupted into applause. Emma stood frozen, her cheeks burning crimson. She had spent three years desperately trying to remain invisible, trying to blend into the wallpaper. She never expected attention. She certainly never expected praise from the company’s absolute leadership.
