Chapter 42 - The Sins of the Father
Daniel’s investigation into the corporate architecture of Aura yielded terrifyingly familiar results. He walked into Emma’s office later that afternoon, holding a printed dossier that felt significantly heavier than it looked.
"Aura isn't just a tech startup, Emma," Daniel said, his expression completely grave. "It’s a vendetta."
Emma opened the dossier. Staring back at her was a photograph of a sharp-featured, intensely arrogant man in his early thirties. He wore a minimalist black turtleneck, the uniform of the modern tech billionaire, but his eyes held a cold, familiar cruelty that made Emma’s blood run cold.
"His name is Silas Sterling," Daniel announced. "He is the only son of Victor Sterling."
Emma leaned back in her chair, the ghosts of the past instantly materializing in the room. Ten years ago, Victor Sterling had attempted to hostilely take over the Grand Lawson using cartel blood money. Emma had outmaneuvered him, exposing his crimes to the FBI and sending him to federal prison, completely bankrupting his legacy company, Vanguard.
"Victor died in federal prison three years ago," Emma recalled softly.
"And Silas spent the last decade building a new empire in the tech sector, specifically designed to destroy you," Daniel explained. "He blames you for his family’s total ruin. He didn't build Aura to revolutionize hospitality. He built it to bankrupt the Grand Lawson. He’s deliberately pricing his automated suites at sixty percent below our baseline rates. He’s willing to operate at a massive loss just to bleed us dry."

Emma looked out the window at the black glass tower across the street. It was no longer just a rival hotel; it was a monument to a son’s absolute obsession with revenge.
"He wants to prove that my belief in human dignity is a financial weakness," Emma stated, her posture straightening, the fierce warrior who had saved Margaret Lawson’s legacy returning in full force. "He thinks he can use an algorithm to crush the spirit of this company. He is gravely mistaken."
