Chapter 17 - The Brink of Disaster

The opportunity arrived six months later, during the most critical night of the hotel's calendar: The Annual Global Lawson Charity Gala.

It was a massive event hosted in the Grand Ballroom, attended by international dignitaries, celebrities, and major shareholders. Julian had been appointed as the junior logistics coordinator for the evening, a role he had lobbied hard for to impress Daniel Lawson.

But at 6:00 PM, just one hour before the doors were scheduled to open, a catastrophic failure occurred.

A severe water main break on the city block completely severed the primary water supply to the hotel’s industrial kitchens. The massive catering team, tasked with preparing a five-course meal for eight hundred elite guests, was suddenly paralyzed. Without water, they couldn't boil, clean, or prep the final courses.

Panic swept through the command center. Julian stood frozen, staring at his tablet, his face pale with terror.

"We have to cancel the dinner," Julian stammered to the Executive Chef. "We can just serve cold hors d'oeuvres and offer refunds."

"You can't cancel the dinner!" Mr. Harrison yelled, pulling his hair. "The Governor is attending! It will be a global embarrassment for the company!"

Emma walked into the chaotic command center. She assessed the panic, looked at the screaming chef, and realized that the Ivy League graduates were completely paralyzed by a variable they hadn't studied in a textbook.

"We aren't canceling anything," Emma said loudly, her voice cutting through the panic.

Julian glared at her. "Stay out of this, Emma. This is a logistical nightmare, not a spilled coffee."

Emma ignored him. She grabbed a radio off the desk and switched it to a frequency the executives never used. The maintenance channel.
