Chapter 6 - The Revelation

The woman in the black gown stared at the silver-haired man. Her confidence vanished instantly. A moment earlier, she had been screaming at a hotel maid, threatening to destroy lives. Now, she looked genuinely, deeply nervous.
The man ignored Victoria completely. He walked calmly, deliberately, toward the wheelchair.
The elderly woman smiled warmly when she saw him, the tension finally leaving her shoulders.
"Daniel," she whispered.
He knelt on the polished marble floor, completely uncaring about ruining his expensive suit, and gently squeezed her hand.
"Are you alright, Mother?" Daniel asked, his eyes scanning her face for any sign of distress.
She nodded reassuringly. "I am perfectly fine, Daniel. Thanks to this brave young woman." She gestured gracefully toward Emma, who was standing frozen in shock.
The guests watching nearby exchanged curious, frantic glances. Whispers began to ripple through the crowd like a rising tide.
Victoria Vance swallowed hard, her throat suddenly entirely dry. She realized with a sickening jolt that something was wrong. Very, very wrong.
"Wait," Victoria said carefully, her aggressive tone replaced by a trembling, desperate uncertainty. "You know her?"
Daniel slowly stood up. He turned his head, fixing Victoria with a glare so cold it could have frozen the ocean.
"Know her?" Daniel repeated, his expression hardening into terrifying stone. "She is my mother."
Victoria’s face lost all color. Her jaw went slack. The whispers in the lobby suddenly erupted into a collective gasp of recognition.
The elderly woman in the wheelchair wasn't just another guest. She wasn't just a random senior citizen waiting for a room.
