Chapter 31 - The Geneva Connection

"This is an outrage!" Victor Sterling roared, slamming his fist on the table. "You have illegally hacked my executive's private communications! I will sue you into absolute oblivion, Ms. Carter!"

"You can't sue anyone from a federal holding cell, Victor," Emma countered flawlessly. She turned to the board. "The FBI’s financial crimes division is already reviewing the Obsidian Trust wire transfers. If you sign that contract today, the federal government will freeze the entire two billion dollars immediately. You will not see a single dime of Vanguard's money. However, you will absolutely see a federal indictment for attempting to facilitate international money laundering."

Eleanor Hastings, the ruthless hedge fund manager who had been so eager to sell, threw the contract across the table as if it were radioactive. "Richard, if my name is attached to a sanctioned cartel front, my entire fund will be audited and seized by the SEC. We cannot do this deal."

"It’s a bluff!" Victor shouted, desperation finally cracking his polished veneer. "She is bluffing! The money is clean! I have legal affidavits!"

"Then you can show them to the authorities," Emma said.

Right on cue, the heavy doors to the boardroom opened again. Four stern-looking men in dark suits walked into the room, flashing gold FBI badges.

"Victor Sterling?" the lead agent said, stepping forward with a pair of steel handcuffs. "You are under arrest for conspiracy to commit international money laundering and wire fraud. Please step away from the table."

Victor stared at the agents in absolute shock. He looked at Emma, pure hatred radiating from his eyes, but he had no moves left to play. He was handcuffed and dragged out of the boardroom in complete disgrace, his expensive lawyers scrambling frantically behind him.

The boardroom was dead silent. The twelve wealthy executives stared at Emma, realizing that the young woman they had completely underestimated had just saved them from total financial and legal ruin.

"The Vanguard deal is dead," Emma announced softly, but firmly. "Which means the Grand Lawson is not for sale."

Richard Vance cleared his throat, adjusting his tie nervously. "Ms. Carter... Emma. We... we owe you a profound debt of gratitude. You have saved this board from a catastrophic legal disaster."

"You don't owe me anything, Richard," Emma said, her eyes flashing with a righteous, unyielding fire. "But you do owe Margaret Lawson your respect. She spent fifty years building this empire with integrity. You tried to steal it from her while she was fighting for her life in a hospital bed."

Emma leaned over the table, pressing her hands against the mahogany wood. "I am the General Manager of the Grand Lawson. And as of this moment, the board will cease all attempts to interfere with my operational control, or I will gladly hand Julian's entire hard drive—including the emails where some of you accepted illegal kickbacks from Vanguard—directly to the press. Do we have an understanding?"

The board members nodded furiously in unison. The queen had taken her throne.
