Chapter 5 - The Line in the Sand
The luxurious hotel lobby became completely silent.
Victoria stared at Emma in absolute, paralyzed shock. A maid—a faceless, nameless cleaner—was physically restraining her. She looked at Emma’s calloused hand gripping her expensive wrist, and a look of profound disgust washed over her face.
"Take your filthy hands off me!" Victoria screamed, yanking her arm away violently. "Security! Get this trash out of my sight!"
Mr. Harrison, the floor manager, came sprinting across the lobby, his face pale and shining with panicked sweat. He saw Emma standing defensively in front of the wheelchair and immediately assumed the worst.
"Emma! What on earth are you doing?!" Harrison demanded, his voice cracking. He turned to Victoria, bowing his head subserviently. "Ms. Vance, I am so incredibly sorry. I don't know what has gotten into this employee. She will be terminated immediately."
"Terminated?" Victoria hissed. "I want her arrested for assault! And I want that old hag thrown out of this hotel!"
Emma stood her ground, refusing to step away from the wheelchair. "She was going to hit this woman," Emma pleaded, looking at the manager. "I was only trying to stop her."
"I don't care!" Harrison yelled, completely terrified of losing Victoria's business. "You do not touch the guests, Emma! You are fired. Get your things and leave through the service exit."
Emma felt a crushing weight fall onto her chest. Her job, her sister's tuition, her apartment—all gone in a matter of seconds. But as she looked down at the elderly woman, who was watching her with an expression of profound gratitude, Emma knew she would make the exact same choice again.

Before Emma could turn to leave, the heavy glass doors of the main entrance swung open. A man in a sharp, bespoke charcoal suit stepped into the lobby. He had silver hair at his temples and an aura of immense, undeniable authority.
"No one is being fired today, Mr. Harrison," the man said, his deep voice carrying effortlessly across the silent room.
