The small celebration ended just after midnight. Arthur hugged Emily goodbye, his smile gentle and warm—a stark contrast to the strict man of the Montgomery family from days past. Sarah lingered a little longer to help her clear the terracotta glasses.
When she was finally alone, Emily stood in the middle of the courtyard filled with vibrant petunias. She took a deep breath. The air in Coyoacán lacked the scent of hypocrisy and the cold calculations of Manhattan. Here, she could be herself.
The scars on her body had faded, but the sharpness of her mind only grew more acute. Tomorrow, she would officially begin a new campaign at GFI (Global Financial Integrity). Her old enemies had fallen, but this world was still filled with countless monsters disguised as corporations. And now, Emily was ready to hunt.
