Chapter 43 - The Dormant Code
Emily handed a waking Lily to her trusted nanny and immediately followed Arthur down into the subterranean levels of the villa. Sarah’s command center was a technological marvel, bathed in the cool blue light of a dozen high-definition monitors.
Sarah was frantically typing at her mechanical keyboard, her brow furrowed in deep concentration. When Emily walked in, Sarah spun her chair around, pointing to a massive string of highlighted red code on the primary display.
"I've spent the last three months decrypting the lowest levels of Victor's shadow ledger," Sarah began, her voice tight with anxiety. "We successfully routed the vast majority of his funds to the Mexican federal government. But Victor was paranoid. He kept a secondary, highly hidden operational fund totaling nearly one hundred million dollars."
Emily crossed her arms, analyzing the screen. "Where is the money now?"
"That's the problem," Sarah sighed, rubbing her temples. "It’s sitting in a deeply secured Swiss escrow account. It was programmed with a digital dead-man’s switch. Victor was supposed to log in and authorize a biometric ping every thirty days. Because he is currently rotting in a maximum-security federal prison, he missed his mandatory check-in yesterday."
"What happens when the switch activates?" Arthur asked, leaning against the server rack.
"It executed an automated protocol," Sarah explained grimly. "The protocol sent a localized digital beacon directly to a server in Jalisco. It basically announced to the cartel that Victor is compromised, and it provided the encrypted location of the stolen hundred million dollars."
Emily felt a cold chill run down her spine. "The cartel knows Victor stole their money. And they know he was taken down by us."

"Exactly," Sarah nodded. "The federales took the credit for the arrest, but the cartel has vast intelligence networks. They will eventually trace the digital footprints of the data heist back to Coyoacán. They won't care about Victor's corporate crimes. They only care about the missing money, and they will assume you have the decryption keys to access that Swiss account."
"We are not going back to living in fear," Emily stated, her voice hardening into absolute steel. "We find the men on the other end of that beacon, and we neutralize the threat before they ever reach our gates."
