Chapter 20 - Rendezvous at Zócalo

The Zócalo square was bustling with people, vibrant with the colors of vendor stalls and street performers. Emily wore a wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses, blending into the tourist crowd. Sarah walked ten paces behind her, her sharp eyes scanning every face.

Mateo stood by a fountain, clutching a leather briefcase to his chest, his forehead drenched in sweat. Emily approached, pretending to admire some nearby street art, and spoke softly.

"You did the right thing, Mateo. Put the briefcase down at the base of the fountain and walk towards the subway station. Our people will protect you."

Mateo trembled but complied. However, just as the briefcase touched the ground, three men dressed in black suddenly drew their weapons from the crowd and lunged toward them.
