Chapter 48 - The Interrogation

They did not take El Lobo back to the pristine sanctuary of the Coyoacán villa. Arthur drove the armored SUV to a dilapidated, abandoned industrial warehouse on the outskirts of Mexico City—a secure black site he had prepared for extreme contingencies.

El Lobo woke up an hour later. He was tightly bound to a heavy metal chair, shivering under the harsh, glaring light of a single incandescent bulb swinging from the ceiling. His head throbbed violently from the blow Emily had delivered.

Emily stood in the shadows, her arms crossed, watching him struggle against the heavy nylon zip-ties. Arthur stood directly under the light, his massive frame projecting absolute, terrifying authority.

"You are going to tell us everything about your employer," Arthur stated, his voice a low, rumbling threat that echoed in the empty warehouse.

El Lobo spat a mouthful of blood onto the concrete floor, laughing weakly. "You people are dead. You have absolutely no idea who you are dealing with. My boss will tear your beautiful little villa to the ground and slaughter everyone inside it."

Emily stepped out of the shadows, pulling up a chair and sitting directly in front of the bound assassin. She looked at him with eyes devoid of any human warmth.

"Your boss is a coward who sends foot soldiers to do his dirty work," Emily said softly, leaning forward. "Victor Sterling thought he could break me. He is currently rotting in a maximum-security cell. You have exactly two minutes to give me a name, Mateo. If you refuse, we will leave you tied to this chair, and Sarah will leak your exact GPS coordinates to the rival Sinaloa cartel. I'm sure they would love to have a conversation with a Sonora intelligence officer."

The color rapidly drained from El Lobo's face. The threat of being handed over to a rival cartel was far more terrifying than a bullet. He realized he was dealing with professionals who possessed zero moral hesitation.

"His name is El Fantasma," El Lobo choked out, his arrogance entirely shattered. "The Ghost. He runs the splinter faction in Jalisco. He knows Victor hid the hundred million in the Swiss account. He wants the biometric decryption keys, and he believes you took them from Victor's command center."
