Chapter 30 - The Digital Breach

At 2:00 AM, the dense, humid air of the Mexican night was broken by the sharp, piercing tone of Sarah’s primary security terminal. The screen flashed a brilliant, pulsing crimson.
"We have a massive spike in localized network traffic," Sarah announced, her fingers flying across the mechanical keyboard with blistering speed. "Someone is aggressively probing our exterior firewalls. It’s a brute-force attack."
Arthur stood perfectly still near the front entrance, his assault rifle resting comfortably against his shoulder. "Can they get in?"
"They are using military-grade decryption algorithms," Sarah muttered, beads of sweat forming on her forehead. "They’re trying to hijack the smart grid to disable the perimeter alarms and unlock the gates. Victor didn't just hire thugs; he brought a tier-one cyber warfare team."
Emily stepped behind Sarah, watching the lines of malicious code attempting to eat through their defenses.
"Lock them out, Sarah. Burn the bridge if you have to," Emily ordered.
"If I sever the external connection entirely, we lose our early warning satellite feeds," Sarah warned, glancing over her shoulder. "We won't be able to see them coming down the street."
"We don't need to see them down the street," Arthur rumbled from the shadows. "We only need to see them when they step into the courtyard. Cut the feed."
Sarah nodded. She typed a rapid sequence of commands and hit the enter key with extreme prejudice.
System Isolated. Internal Network Only.
The monitors flickered, and the digital map of the surrounding Coyoacán neighborhood went entirely black. The villa was now an island, completely disconnected from the outside world.
"The digital doors are locked," Sarah breathed a sigh of relief. "They can't hack the physical deadbolts."
"Which means they have to do it the old-fashioned way," Arthur said, reaching up to adjust his earpiece. "Emily, take the high ground in the gallery overlooking the courtyard. Sarah, monitor the localized thermal cameras. If a mouse breathes out there, I want to know about it."

Emily nodded, gripping her pistol tightly. She moved silently up the grand staircase, her bare feet making no sound on the polished wood. She positioned herself behind the thick stone balustrade on the second-floor gallery. Through the narrow slits in the steel shutters, she had a perfect, elevated view of the purple Jacaranda trees swaying gently in the dark courtyard below.
The silence stretched on, thick and suffocating. And then, the faint, unmistakable sound of a grappling hook striking the top of the outer stone wall echoed through the night.
