Chapter 31 - The Silent Assassins

"Three heat signatures scaling the eastern wall," Sarah’s voice crackled efficiently in Emily’s earpiece. "They are moving fast. Professional gear."

From her elevated vantage point in the gallery, Emily peered through the scope of her weapon. The moonlight cast long, deceptive shadows across the courtyard, but her eyes quickly adjusted. Three figures dressed entirely in black tactical gear dropped silently from the high stone wall, landing in the soft flowerbeds with the grace of predatory cats.

They didn't speak. They communicated entirely through sharp, precise hand signals. They carried suppressed submachine guns, their laser sights cutting faint red lines through the humid air.

"I have visual on three," Emily whispered into her mic. "They are advancing toward the main patio doors."

"Hold your fire, Emily," Arthur replied smoothly over the comms. "Let them walk into the web."

The assassins moved in a tight, coordinated formation, unaware that they were stepping into a fatal funnel. As the lead man approached the heavy oak doors of the patio, he reached into his tactical vest to retrieve a breaching charge.

He never got the chance to plant it.

Arthur emerged from the dark alcove beneath the stairs like a vengeful phantom. He didn't use his rifle; it was too loud for the close quarters of the patio. Instead, he lunged forward, grabbing the lead assassin from behind. In one fluid, brutal motion, Arthur snapped the man’s neck, lowering his limp body to the terracotta tiles without making a single sound.

The second assassin spun around, sensing the sudden absence of his leader, but Arthur was already moving. He drove a combat knife deep into the gap between the man's body armor, neutralizing the threat instantly.

The third assassin, realizing the ambush, panicked. He raised his submachine gun, aiming directly at Arthur’s back.

Emily didn't hesitate. She exhaled smoothly, aligning the sights of her pistol with the center of the third assassin's chest. She squeezed the trigger.

Crack.

The suppressed shot echoed quietly in the courtyard. The assassin grunted, the impact throwing him backward into the trunk of a Jacaranda tree. He slid to the ground, his weapon clattering harmlessly onto the stone.

"Courtyard is clear," Arthur said calmly, wiping his blade on the grass. "Excellent shot, Emily."

"That was just the scouting party," Sarah interrupted over the comms, her voice tight with anxiety. "Victor knows they failed. He just pulled three vans up to the front gate. He’s done being quiet."
