Chapter 35 - The Frequency Jam

Emily crouched behind a rusted dumpster, her eyes locked on the black SUV. The two guards stationed outside the vehicle were heavily armed, scanning the perimeter with professional vigilance. A direct frontal assault was impossible.

She pressed the transmit button on her secure earpiece. "Sarah, I have visual on the target vehicle. Are you ready on the comms jam?"

"Ready and waiting, Emily," Sarah’s voice crackled softly. "The moment I execute the feedback loop, their earpieces are going to scream like a banshee. You'll have maybe sixty seconds of total disorientation before they rip their headsets out."

"Do it on my mark," Emily whispered. She pulled the flashbang grenade Arthur had given her, her finger slipping through the metal pull-ring.

She took a deep breath, visualizing the exact sequence of movements. She was no longer the terrified girl who had cowered in penthouses. She was the storm.

"Mark," Emily commanded.

Instantly, the two guards outside the SUV violently grabbed their ears, dropping their rifles to the wet pavement as they screamed in agony. Sarah had blasted a localized, high-decibel acoustic feedback loop directly into their encrypted earpieces, effectively rupturing their equilibrium.

Emily didn't hesitate. She pulled the pin on the flashbang and hurled it perfectly beneath the undercarriage of the SUV.

She squeezed her eyes shut and covered her ears.

BANG!

A blinding flash of white light and a deafening concussion rocked the narrow street. The guards were completely blinded and incapacitated, stumbling blindly against the sides of the vehicle.

Emily surged forward from the shadows. She moved with ruthless, calculated efficiency, striking the first guard in the back of the knee with a tactical baton, sending him crashing to the asphalt, and delivering a swift, neutralizing blow to the second guard’s temple with the butt of her pistol.

Both guards lay unconscious on the wet street.

Emily stood before the heavy, reinforced rear door of the SUV. The engine was running, the dark tinted windows hiding the monster inside. She raised her pistol, aiming directly at the center of the door handle, and fired three rapid shots, shattering the internal locking mechanism.

She violently yanked the heavy door open, stepping into the mobile command center with her weapon raised, ready to end the Sterling legacy forever.
