Chapter 8 - The DNA of Destruction

Evelyn slid down the wall, collapsing onto the hardwood floor in a weeping, pathetic heap.
"Please..." Evelyn begged, reaching out toward her husband. "Tell me no."
Daniel squeezed his eyes shut, turning his face away from the destruction he had just finalized.
It was Chloe who spoke over everyone, her voice cutting through the hysteria with surgical precision.
"I took a DNA test two months ago," Chloe announced.
Arthur felt as though the very floorboards had vanished beneath his feet. The world was spinning dangerously out of control.
"What?" Arthur gasped, gripping the edge of the console table to keep from falling.

"Because I found the old text messages on her laptop," Chloe explained, her gaze burning into her weeping mother. "Because I found the hidden photographs. Because I found the letters she kept locked in a box in the attic."
