Chapter 10 - The Broken Statue

Arthur’s mind raced backward through time, a chaotic, agonizing montage of memories flashing behind his eyes.

He had raised this girl for eighteen years.

He had taught her how to ride her first bicycle without training wheels in the park down the street. He had walked her to her very first day of kindergarten, holding her tiny hand.

He had held her hand while she burned with a fever at three in the morning. He had hugged her fiercely when she cried over her first broken heart.

He had proudly called her his daughter every single day of his adult life.

And now, a man he hadn't seen in two decades had just stood in his foyer and told him that they did not share a single drop of blood.

The foyer remained cloaked in a horrific, tense stillness.
