Chapter 3 - The End of an Era

Evelyn broke down, sobbing loudly, falling to her knees on the expensive Persian rug.

"I thought that if you believed I was pregnant, you wouldn't abandon me," Evelyn wailed, burying her face in her hands.

Chloe crossed her arms tightly over her chest, utterly unmoved by her mother’s theatrical display of grief.

"But you were already cheating on him," Chloe stated, her voice as cold as ice.

Another silence fell over the room. It was thick, toxic, and entirely undeniable.

Arthur breathed heavily, his chest rising and falling in rapid, jagged motions. He pointed a shaking finger toward the long hallway leading to the master bedroom.

"Pack your bags," Arthur commanded. His voice held no room for negotiation.

"Please, Arthur..." Evelyn begged, looking up with a desperate, tear-streaked face.

"We are done," Arthur finalized.

Evelyn looked around the room wildly, her eyes darting from her husband to her daughter, desperately hoping someone would intervene, someone would soften the blow. But no one did. The bridge was entirely burned.
