Chapter 25 - A Letter from the Shadows
The restraining order was served, and Evelyn legally vanished into the ether.
Two weeks later, a thick, white envelope arrived in the mail. It was addressed to Chloe, with no return address, but the postmark was from Daniel's home city.
Chloe sat at the kitchen island, staring at the envelope for a long time.
Arthur walked in, wiping his hands on a towel, and saw the letter. He didn't hover, and he didn't tell her what to do. He simply poured a glass of water and sat across from her, offering his silent, unyielding support.
"It's from him,"
Chloe whispered.
"You don't have to open it,"
Arthur said gently.
"I know,"
Chloe replied, grabbing a butter knife.

"But I want to."
She sliced the envelope open. Inside was a single, neatly handwritten page, and a sealed folder labeled Medical History.
