Chapter 2 - The Gaslighting Unveiled

Arthur slowly turned his head to look at his daughter.

A crushing, agonizing wave of shame washed over him. He felt physically sick. For months, he had allowed his wife to manipulate him into believing Chloe was the problem.

"You called me jealous," Chloe said, her green eyes blazing with righteous, justified anger. "You let him hate me for months."

Arthur closed his eyes, remembering the arguments. Every dinner had been a battlefield. Every time Chloe had tried to voice her suspicions about her mother’s erratic behavior, Arthur had shut her down. Every single time he had defended Evelyn, he had accused his own daughter of deliberately trying to sabotage their family's happiness.

And it had all been built on a despicable, calculated lie.

Evelyn took a desperate, hesitant step toward her husband.

"I just wanted us to stay together," Evelyn pleaded, reaching out a trembling hand.

Arthur violently sidestepped her touch, as if her skin were made of acid.

"You used a fake baby to trap me," Arthur stated, the sheer malice of the act finally settling into his bones.
