Chapter 30 - Graduation Day
The high school football stadium was sweltering under the early June sun.
Arthur sat in the front row of the bleachers, holding a massive, vibrant bouquet of yellow sunflowers. His heart hammered with an intense, overwhelming pride as the graduation march began to play over the loudspeakers.
Chloe walked out onto the field, wearing her bright blue cap and gown.
She was graduating with honors, ranking in the top ten of her entire class. As she crossed the stage to receive her diploma, she didn't scan the crowd for a missing mother.
She looked directly at Arthur.

She held up her diploma, flashing him a brilliant, tearful smile.
Arthur stood up, cheering louder than anyone else in the entire stadium, completely unashamed of the tears spilling down his own cheeks.
