Chapter 6 - The Confession of a Coward

Daniel swallowed hard, shifting his weight uncomfortably under the porch light.

"I am sorry," Daniel said, his voice raspy and hollow.

Evelyn rushed into the foyer, panic making her movements jagged and uncoordinated.

"Get out!" Evelyn screamed at Daniel, pointing frantically toward the street. "Leave us alone!"

Daniel looked at her, his eyes filled with a deep, tragic resignation.

"I can't keep doing this, Evie. I can't keep running," Daniel said quietly.

Arthur looked back and forth between the two of them, his mind violently trying to process the impossibility of the situation. Daniel had been his best friend in college. He hadn't seen the man in almost twenty years.

"What the hell is going on here?" Arthur demanded, his voice rising in volume.
