Chapter 38 - The Thanksgiving Return

The house smelled of roasted turkey, cinnamon, and warm garlic.
Arthur stood in the kitchen, carefully basting the bird, while Sarah laughed brightly at a joke coming from the living room.
The front door had been thrown open an hour ago by a completely exhausted, but radiantly happy Chloe, hauling a duffel bag of dirty laundry.
"I missed real food so much,"
Chloe groaned, walking into the kitchen and stealing a piece of cheese from the cutting board.
"Hey, hands off the prep station,"

Chloe laughed, looking over at Sarah, who was pouring glasses of apple cider. The house was no longer empty. It was full, vibrant, and alive with genuine, authentic love.
