Chapter 32 - The Packing Tape

Late August brought the chaotic, bittersweet reality of moving.

Chloe’s bedroom was a disaster zone of cardboard boxes, bubble wrap, and stacks of textbooks.

Arthur stood in the doorway, holding a roll of packing tape, feeling a sudden, heavy lump form in his throat.

"Do I really need all these winter coats?"

Chloe groaned, trying to force a massive parka into a medium-sized box.

"You are moving up north, kiddo. The wind off the lake will freeze you solid. Take the coat,"

Arthur chuckled, walking in to help her secure the box.

They worked together, taping up the physical remnants of her childhood.

"I'm going to miss this room,"

Chloe admitted softly, looking around the bare walls.

"It will be right here waiting for you on Thanksgiving,"

Arthur promised, wrapping his arm securely around her shoulders.
