Chapter 9: Leaving the Darkness
Elena stepped forward, holding Maya’s silk evening coat. She draped it over her daughter’s shoulders, pulling her into a brief but fiercely protective embrace—an embrace radiating maternal strength and unconditional love.
"Let's go home, sweetheart," Elena said gently.
Mother and daughter turned their backs on the wreckage of the VIP table. Their heels clicked in a steady, confident rhythm against the oak floors. They glided past the astonished stares of the elite crowd, walking right out the front doors as David’s pathetic, desperate screaming and Rebecca’s hysterical sobbing echoed behind them. Just as they reached the lobby, two uniformed police officers were walking in.
The heavy glass revolving doors pushed them out into the cool, crisp night air of the city. After the suffocating tension inside, the breeze felt like a breath of pure freedom.

"Mom..." Maya whispered as they approached the waiting black sedan. "Did you always know? That your fund was the one keeping his company alive?"
"I always knew," Elena replied, opening the car door for her daughter. "But I couldn't just take his money away randomly. I had to wait for you to realize your own worth. I could strip him of his power at any moment, but only you had the power to reclaim your freedom. Your days of enduring abuse are over."
