With the divorce finalized and David awaiting his criminal trial, Elena insisted Maya take some time away from the city.
Maya drove up the coast to a secluded, beautiful beach house in Carmel. For two weeks, she didn't look at financial reports, she didn't wear makeup, and she didn't answer her phone.
She spent her days walking barefoot on the sand, listening to the crashing waves, and breathing in the salty ocean air. She read books she hadn't had time to read in years. She painted. She slept.
