Chapter 12 - The Iron Attorney

By noon, the estate’s private library had been transformed into a war room.
Elena had called in Victoria Sterling, the most feared, ruthless divorce attorney in the city. Victoria was a tall woman in a sharp navy suit, her eyes assessing Maya with a mix of professional detachment and quiet solidarity.
"The goal here is not just a divorce, Maya," Victoria said, spreading thick files across the table. "The goal is total extraction. David signed a prenup that heavily favored him, but given the public nature of his assault on you last night—which was witnessed by at least fifty high-profile individuals—we are going to invalidate it under the grounds of extreme duress and domestic abuse."
Maya looked at the papers. "I don't want his money, Victoria. I just want out."
"You misunderstand, my dear," Elena interrupted gently. "It’s not about needing his money. It’s about stripping him of the resources he could use to retaliate. We leave him with nothing but his debts."
Victoria nodded in agreement. "I have already filed the temporary restraining order. He cannot come within five hundred yards of you. Furthermore, we are filing a civil suit for battery and emotional distress."

Maya took the expensive fountain pen Victoria offered her. For years, her signature had been used to co-sign loans and validate David's extravagant lifestyle. Now, she was using it to cut his throat.
She signed her name on the dotted line with a steady, unwavering hand.
