The divorce settlement was swift and brutal.
To avoid Maya testifying against him in the upcoming federal fraud trial—which would guarantee him a maximum sentence—David agreed to every single one of Victoria’s terms.
He relinquished any claim to the properties they had shared. He signed a permanent, lifetime restraining order. And he formally accepted full liability for the debts his company had incurred.
Maya took the pen and signed the final decree.
She didn't feel a rush of adrenaline or a dramatic surge of vindication. She simply felt a profound, settling peace. The heavy, suffocating chain that had been wrapped around her neck for years fell to the floor, vanishing into dust.
