Chapter 18 - Stepping into the Light
The studio lights were blindingly bright.
Maya sat in a plush armchair across from Diane Sawyer, one of the most respected investigative journalists in the country. The broadcast was live, drawing millions of viewers eager for the scandal of the year.
"Maya," Diane began gently. "Your husband’s representatives have painted a very different picture of your marriage. They claim you were manipulative, and the incident at the restaurant was exaggerated."
Maya looked directly into the camera. She didn't look like a victim. She looked like a warrior.
"Abusers rely on the silence of their victims, Diane," Maya said, her voice clear and resonant. "David Harrington wants people to believe I am lying because the truth exposes him for what he is: a coward who uses money to buy the right to hurt people."
