Chapter 1: The Perfect Dinner Under the Chandeliers

The Copper Lantern on a Thursday evening was the absolute pinnacle of the city's high society. The restaurant was completely packed, yet the atmosphere remained elegantly subdued. There were no loud voices, only the sophisticated murmur of elite conversations, the gentle clinking of heavy silver cutlery against fine porcelain, and the dazzling reflection of crystal wine glasses under the warm, cascading light of magnificent chandeliers.

At the premier VIP table in the center of the dining room, everything appeared picture-perfect. David, a rising-star CEO known for his aggressive business tactics, sat impeccably dressed in a bespoke tailored suit. He was gesturing animatedly, dominating the conversation with boasts about his latest corporate acquisition.

Beside him sat Maya, his beautiful but notoriously quiet wife. She wore an elegant jade-green silk dress, her eyes cast downward, staring at an appetizer she had barely touched. Across from them sat Rebecca, David’s mother, a woman who radiated toxic arrogance, heavily draped in ostentatious jewelry. Finally, sitting silently at the edge of the table was Elena—Maya’s mother. Unlike her in-law’s flashy display of wealth, Elena dressed in understated, classic elegance, projecting a quiet, unreadable calm.

"Our third-quarter profits have exceeded projections by three hundred percent," David declared, taking a slow, self-satisfied sip of his Cabernet. "Everyone who stood in my way has been crushed. Business is a warzone, and I am the only king left standing on the battlefield."

"Of course you are, my wonderful son," Rebecca laughed loudly, her manicured fingers grazing her thick pearl necklace. "You carry the bloodline of our family. No one can say no to you. Especially those who are lucky enough to reap the benefits of your hard work." She cast a deliberate, condescending glare at Maya.

Maya swallowed hard, trying to maintain the fragile, painted-on smile she wore in public. On the surface, it was a scene of glittering perfection. But no one in that luxurious room could have imagined that in mere minutes, the velvet curtain of this fake perfection would be violently torn down.
