Chapter 4: The Fateful Call

David slowly released Maya’s hair, letting her slump forward, and offered the room a horribly arrogant smirk. He casually adjusted his suit cuffs as if he had just completed a necessary household chore. He truly believed he had reestablished his absolute dominance. He was a king whose authority could not be challenged.

It was in that exact moment that Elena—who had not spoken a single word since the appetizers arrived—slowly stood up from her seat.

She didn't scream. She didn't cry. She didn't throw a glass of wine at her monstrous son-in-law. Instead, she radiated a terrifying, glacial calmness. She looked like an iceberg—quiet on the surface, but possessing enough hidden power to sink an unsinkable ship.

Elena calmly opened her designer clutch and pulled out a sleek black smartphone.

For the first time all evening, David’s expression faltered. He frowned, his arrogant smile hardening.

"What do you think you're doing? Calling the police?" David scoffed loudly. "Go ahead. The Chief of Police played golf with me last weekend. I'll just tell him my hysterical wife had a little family dispute."

Elena didn't even blink at him. She swiped her screen, tapped a contact, and brought the phone to her ear. Only then did she look directly at David. Her gaze pierced right through his expensive suit, seeing nothing but a hollow, pathetic bully.

David had no idea that the call Elena was making was about to completely obliterate everything he had built over the last ten years.
