Chapter 25 - The Fall of the King
The news broke on a rainy Tuesday morning.
David Harrington was found guilty on twenty-two counts of wire fraud, embezzlement, and corporate malfeasance. The judge showed no leniency, sentencing him to fifteen years in a federal penitentiary, without the possibility of early parole.
Maya watched the brief news segment on the television in her office at the Aurora Initiative. She saw the footage of David being led out of the courthouse in handcuffs, looking utterly broken and aged beyond his years.

She didn't celebrate. She didn't gloat. She simply went back to reviewing the housing application for a young mother who needed her help. David belonged to the past. Her focus was entirely on the future.
