Chapter 3: Humiliation Under the Lights
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to..." Maya's eyes welled with tears, desperately trying to de-escalate the situation. She reached out, attempting to gently touch her husband's arm.
But David was completely blinded by his toxic ego. He leaned forward, his face twisted in malice.
"If you do not learn with respect... you will learn with humiliation."
The moment the words left his mouth, without a second of hesitation, David viciously grabbed a fistful of Maya’s meticulously styled hair. Gripping the strands with brutal force, he violently yanked her head backward.
"Ah!"
Maya let out a choked, agonizing scream. Her heavy wooden chair scraped violently against the polished oak floor, creating a deafening, unnatural screech that sliced through the restaurant's elegant ambiance. Her head was pulled sharply back for dozens of patrons to see.
The string quartet playing in the corner abruptly stopped mid-note.
The waiters carrying silver trays froze like statues.
A dead, horrifying silence blanketed The Copper Lantern. No one could believe what they were witnessing.
Maya frantically brought her hands up, trying to pry his fingers loose to stop the searing pain, but David held her in a merciless iron grip, his jaw clenched in pure, sadistic satisfaction. Hot tears spilled down Maya’s beautiful face, ruining her makeup.
The most agonizing part of that moment wasn't the physical pain tearing at her scalp... it was the utter, absolute humiliation. She was being treated like a disobedient animal in the middle of the city's most elite establishment.
But what was even more horrifying than David’s violence was Rebecca’s reaction. Instead of stopping her son, the older woman sat up straight, watching the brutal scene with a proud, approving smile. She even began to clap.
Clap... Clap... Clap...

"This is how you educate a wife," Rebecca announced with absolute calm, her voice loud enough for the neighboring tables to hear. "Modern women have forgotten their place."
Several guests gasped in horror. An elderly woman at the next table covered her mouth in shock. The restaurant manager, pale and sweating, began power-walking toward the VIP table, completely unsure of how to intervene with their wealthiest patron.
