Chapter 10: A New Dawn
The luxury sedan pulled smoothly away from the curb, leaving the glowing lights of The Copper Lantern shrinking in the rearview mirror.
Maya rested her head against the cool leather seat, watching the city streetlights blur past the window. Her scalp still throbbed with a dull, aching pain from where he had grabbed her, but strangely, she had never felt so incredibly light in her entire life.
The perfect mask had finally shattered. The ugly, violent truth of her marriage had been exposed to the world. But from the ashes of that public humiliation, a completely new woman had been forged.
Tomorrow, David would wake up to a living nightmare. He would face massive financial lawsuits, absolute bankruptcy, and his face would be plastered across the covers of business magazines not as a prodigy, but as an abusive failure. Rebecca would be forced to return to the mediocre, powerless life she so deeply despised, stripped of her jewels and her high-society dinners.
But Maya... Maya simply rested her head on her mother's shoulder. She had spent years trapped in the dark, suffocating shadow of a megalomaniac. But tonight, she had finally stepped back into the light.
"Thank you, Mom," Maya whispered, closing her eyes, a genuine, peaceful smile gracing her lips for the first time in years.
