Despite their fierce, organized resistance, the sheer magnitude of the corporate-fueled inferno was overwhelming.
A massive gust of wind swept down from the mountain, carrying a flurry of burning branches completely over the hundred-foot firebreak.
The embers landed directly in the dry grass of the northernmost orchard.
Within seconds, the grass ignited. The fire had breached the line.
"Fall back!"
A farmer screamed, throwing his tractor into reverse as a massive apple tree burst into bright, horrifying flames.
