Chapter 32 - The Courtroom

The federal courtroom was packed with local farmers, journalists, and corporate executives.

Valeria’s lawyers presented a massive, convoluted stack of documents, attempting to prove that the original land grant from ninety years ago had a technical loophole that invalidated Ramón’s ownership of the river.

"Your Honor, the Silva family does not hold the sovereign deed to the water,"

The corporate lawyer argued smoothly.

"Therefore, Apex Holdings has every right to divert the flow."

The federal judge, a stern, incredibly sharp woman, turned her gaze to Ramón and his lawyer.

"Mr. Silva, what do you have to say to these claims?"

The judge asked.

Ramón stood up slowly. He unbuttoned the cuff of his faded pearl-snap shirt and carefully unclasped the vintage Omega watch from his wrist.
