Chapter 21 - The Defiance

The room fell completely silent as the gardener walked down the center aisle.
"Mr. Silva, I presume,"
Sterling sneered, adjusting his expensive silk tie.
"I heard you were the stubborn weed in this valley."
"And I heard you were the parasite,"
Ramón replied, his voice calm, deep, and entirely devoid of fear.
Sterling’s arrogant smile faltered for a fraction of a second.
"You do not have the capital to fight us in court,"
Sterling warned, leaning over the podium.
"I don't need capital,"
Ramón stated, locking his dark eyes onto the corrupt executive.
"I have the original, unbroken treaty signed by the state governor ninety years ago. The water rights are inherently tied to the soil, not a corporate deed."
"Treaties can be rewritten,"
Sterling threatened coldly.

Ramón finalized, turning his back on the executive and walking out of the room.
