The following year was the most prosperous the valley had ever seen.
The river flowed freely, the orchards bloomed with vibrant, explosive colors, and the fruit was heavy and sweet.
Ramón stood on his porch, watching the tractors moving efficiently through the fields. The land was entirely safe, protected by federal law and the unbreakable unity of the local farmers.
"We broke records this season, Dad,"
Mateo smiled, walking up the steps holding a ledger.
"We didn't just grow fruit, Mateo,"
