Chapter 54 - The Office Doors

Julian stalked through the crimson-lit hallways, a phantom dismantling The Directorate's elite security force piece by piece. He didn't use unnecessary force; he merely incapacitated anyone blocking his path to the central executive suite.
He reached the heavy, reinforced mahogany doors of Elias's private office. Julian didn't bother trying to pick the lock. He attached a small, shaped breaching charge to the hinges and stepped back.
BOOM.
The heavy doors blew inward, filling the office with smoke and splinters. Julian stepped through the threshold, his weapon raised, sweeping the room.
The office was massive, featuring floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the rainy Chicago skyline. Sitting casually behind a massive obsidian desk, illuminated by the flashes of lightning outside, was Elias. He wasn't holding a weapon. He was pouring a glass of scotch.
"I have to admit, Julian," Elias said smoothly, taking a sip. "Draining our accounts and scaling the exterior of a skyscraper in the rain? It is a performance worthy of your legend."
Julian kept his weapon aimed directly at Elias’s head.
"The game is over, Elias. Call off the contracts. Erase my file."
Elias chuckled, shaking his head.

"You think killing me solves anything? I am just a middle manager in a very large corporation. You kill me, they send someone else. You will spend the rest of your life looking over your shoulder. Lily will never be safe."
"She will be," Julian said coldly. "Because I didn't just come here to kill you."
