Chapter 50 - The Trap

The intercom clicked off. The squad leader immediately rushed to the steel shutters, firing his weapon point-blank into the metal. The bullets ricocheted harmlessly off the reinforced armor.

"We are boxed in! Find the control room!" the leader barked.

But Julian had not just locked them in. As soon as the shutter protocol was activated, the estate's internal defense system shifted from monitoring to lethal deterrence.

In the long upstairs hallway, a hidden panel in the ceiling slid open. An automated, non-lethal sonic emitter dropped down. Before the soldiers could react, the emitter released a localized, high-frequency sound wave.

Three soldiers collapsed instantly, clutching their ears, blood dripping from their noses as the extreme frequency ruptured their eardrums and disrupted their equilibrium.

"Fall back! To the basement!" the leader yelled, dragging one of his men toward the stairs.

They stumbled down the staircase, desperate to find an exit or a vulnerable wall to breach with explosives. They kicked open the door to the basement, rushing into the dark, subterranean space.

As the last man crossed the threshold, the heavy basement door slammed shut behind them, sealing magnetically.

The lights flickered on, revealing a concrete room with no windows and no other exits. Sitting in the center of the room, casually leaning against a support pillar, was Julian. He had flown back from the Caymans hours ago. He was waiting for them.
